Seer Stones and Mobile Phones

“Every man who lived on the earth was entitled to a seer stone, and should have one, but they are kept from them in consequence of their wickedness, and most of those who do find one make evil use of it.” (Brigham Young’s journal, as quoted in Latter-day Millennial Star, 26:118,119)

“…no man can look in the them [the Interpreters] except he be commanded, lest he should look for that he ought not and should perish.” (Mosiah 8:13)

Interesting that we carry around these little black bricks made of plastic, metal, and glass in our pockets that illuminate and permit us to gaze upon them to reveal a multitude of things. If all earthly things are echoes of the heavenly, then perhaps having this technology provides an additional area of proving for us mortals.

Given our current ‘miraculous’ technological privileges, what do we seek after, what do we look for?

Would our motives be any different if it was heavenly technology?

This is an interesting thought relating the seer stones to a phone. And it is a good point because just like with the unlimited vast amounts of unrestricted knowledge, many people would use it for negative purposes rather than uplifting humanity or searching for personal enlightenment. From the esoteric perspective, the white stones referenced to are pineal gland, the Holy of Holies portion of the brain, or as the ancients refer to it, the Spiritual Third Eye which is responsible for visions and seeing on the other side of the veil. This small organ actually even looks like a small white stone and it is also connected to the pituitary gland by a bow shaped or cord. The wicked are kept from access to pineal gland, or the ability to activate it, due to not being fully initiated spiritually. Sometimes people use this negative spiritual ‘sight’ like those that practice black magic or attempt to exercise unrighteous dominion. Which I believe is what Brigham Young was referring to here, but I still like your insight.

One of the beauties of creation are the fractal patterns that flow from micro to macro, spiritual to physical, and vice versa. It seems that when we don’t see the patterns and relationship between things and instead see everything a separate and unrelated that we are truly blind.

Surely this technological marvel/terror man has constructed pales infinitely to the divine instrument it unintentionally seeks to approximate.

Given the opportunities for edification, learning, entertainment, deception, and sin through the wonders of technology, introspective questions regarding our motivation are not only germane but imperative as we live in the world while striving to be not of it. We are proved through our agency, regardless of the object.

As an aside, instructions were published in the Juvenile Instructor for the creation of an instrument comparable to a seer stone. ;)

The chasm between earthly and heavenly understanding narrows as knowledge advances.
