This was the 2nd episode I recorded with the Stick of Joseph guys. The information I share here is based on this post I published back in 2017. This is actually one of my favorite things I’ve found in the Book of Mormon because it shows some incredible creativity on the part of Mormon in how he abridged the record by sneaking in some symbolic patterns that seem to have been really important to the Nephites.
This episode is titled “The Lost King Mormon?” but that was just a small part of the whole message. Up until I appeared on their show that day, I hadn’t considered that some people thought the land of Mormon was named by king Noah.
I knew that the Nephites had a practice of naming lands after people that first founded them so it would seem strange that Noah would name a land using a name that I would argue is more of a Jaredite name.
I think there was a king Mormon at one point but it’s possible that his story was lost by Martin Harris. Anyway, I have a many more ideas about this but the main point of this episode is how Mormon tells the story of Alma the elder by framing his abridgment using patterns from the tree of life vision.
Enjoy!
