I came across this journal entry that featured a conversation I had with daughter 1 of 4 when she was 8 years old:
Daughter: When do I get a phone, some of my friends have phones?
Me: It’s not just a phone, it is a window that lets you see both amazing things and horrible things, it can bring you closer to those you love and closer to weirdos that would love to hurt you. There is so much good that could come from having one now, but you have no idea about how dangerous having something like this could be if you are unprepared. Don’t worry, we’ll teach you.
Daughter: How old were you when you got a phone?
Dad: I was an adult, I was 21
Daughter: When do you become an adult?
Dad: Technically, when you’re 18 you’re legally an adult.
Daughter: So close…
